LuData is Lucisun’s data and modelling platform designed to deliver reliable environmental intelligence for energy, climate, and infrastructure projects.
It provides access to validated datasets and analytical services through a unified platform, available both via a web interface and APIs, with clear usage visibility and procurement-friendly pricing.
LuData is built for engineers, analysts, consultants, and organizations that need consistent, bankable, and scalable data without having to manage data sourcing complexity themselves.
¶ What LuData is (and what it is not)
LuData is not a simple data download service.
It is a service platform that:
- Selects the right data source automatically
- Applies consistent conventions and assumptions
- Delivers results through standardized services
- Tracks usage transparently
- Scales from manual studies to automated pipelines
Users interact with results and services, not with raw satellite or reanalysis products.
LuData is built on a multi-satellite strategy.
For any given site and period, the platform:
- Identifies which satellite missions cover the location
- Selects the best available spatial and temporal resolution
- Ensures continuity over long time periods
- Avoids forcing users to choose between satellites manually
This guarantees that users never receive lower-quality data when better coverage exists, without needing satellite expertise.
¶ 2. Reanalysis and climate data as a foundation
In addition to satellite-based irradiance data, LuData integrates global reanalysis datasets, primarily ERA5, for:
- Meteorological variables
- Climate context
- Long-term consistency
- Applications in agriculture, solar modelling, and climate studies
¶ 3. Data catalogs and analytical services
LuData exposes two main categories of services:
- Satellite-derived irradiance time series (from GOES-East, IODC , Meteosat Prime and Himawiri)
- Meteorological and climate variables from ERA-5
- Terrain, elevation, and horizon context
- Derived statistical products (e.g. TMY, risk profiles)
All datasets are harmonized in terms of:
- Time conventions
- Units
- Spatial referencing
- Temporal resolution
¶ Models and protocols
Beyond raw data, LuData is going to expose soon validated analytical services, such as:
- Site adaptation workflows (not yet exposed)
- Data quality control (QC) protocols (not yet exposed)
- Yield and risk modelling blocks (not yet exposed)
- Financial and statistical indicators (not yet exposed)
These services encapsulate Lucisun’s engineering know-how and are delivered as black-box services, ensuring consistency and repeatability.
These services are not yet exposed through our APIs.
LuData is an API-first platform, organized around three tightly integrated layers:
- Create and manage site scenarios
- Configure services and parameters
- Visualize outputs and results
- Monitor usage and remaining capacity
- Access history and generated assets
- Programmatic access to the same services as the UI
- Documented through Swagger UI and Scalar UI via the API docs
- Designed for automation and integration into pipelines
- Tracks service consumption at request level
- Enforces contracts, quotas, and limits
- Provides transparent visibility to users of their consumptions.
The UI and API are strictly equivalent: they rely on the same services and accounting rules.
Internally, LuData tracks usage at a technical request level to ensure precision and fairness.
Externally, users do not buy requests.
Instead, users purchase capacity expressed in understandable units, such as:
- Number of sites per year
- Portfolio capacity
- Platform or application usage bundles
This approach:
- Avoids complex request counting
- Makes procurement straightforward
- Aligns pricing with real engineering workflows
- Prevents hidden or “shady” consumption logic
Usage dashboards allow users to:
- See what has been consumed
- Understand what remains
- Plan future studies confidently
LuData is designed as a multi-provider platform.
In addition to Lucisun’s own services, which is currently exposed, the platform can host:
- Third-party datasets
- Partner analytical models
- Custom protocols exposed securely as services
For providers:
- No exposure of source code
- Controlled access and versioning
- Usage tracking and contract enforcement
For users:
- Unified access
- Consistent interfaces
- Single usage and entitlement framework
At present, Lucisun is the sole provider on the platform.
Marketplace capabilities are available and may be opened progressively.
LuData is used by:
- Energy and climate engineers
- Consultants and technical advisors
- R&D and innovation teams
- Developers integrating data services
- Organizations requiring traceable, bankable energy and climate data
It supports:
- One-off studies
- Portfolio-scale analysis
- Fully automated pipelines
- Embedded applications
